Unfortunately, this is pretty much it in terms of musical customization and strategy. The energy level is used for performances, where the order of songs is important to balance out the audience's entertainment without getting burned out. Songwriting in Rising Star 2 is completed by a simple puzzle game, with options to choose the "energy level" of the song. These jobs are done by driving the band's van across their city, dropping off clowns at birthday parties and landscaping public parks and graveyards. After the band is complete, it's up to the player to complete odd jobs, write songs, practice, and establish a reputation. Stats of these members can't be viewed until after they are hired, although their chemistry with other band members is shown and sometimes their listing will give hints to their abilities: a "Veteran Bass Player" will likely be better than a regular "Bass Player".
Band members are then hired at local music shops to fill out the other four positions.
Rising Star 2, one of the indie games featured in the Steam Summer Games Festival, begins with character and band creation, along with the choice of a starting city. Some interesting gameplay is able to excuse the amateurish presentation and visuals, but ultimately the game falls flat after spending several hours with it.
